VCID No. 872569 We are looking for a Senior Orthotist to join our dedicated team at the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS).
In this role, you will provide advanced orthotic services to inpatients and outpatients, including assessment, design, manufacturing, and fitting of orthoses for complex patient presentations including lower limb, spinal, Rigo-Cheneau and Boston-style Orthoses. Together with the Manager of the Orthotics Service, you will have the opportunity to drive quality improvement projects such as 3D printing implementation and evaluation of new technology to ensure our practices remain contemporary.
You will provide operational leadership and clinical supervision to P1 Orthotists, junior staff, and students, engaging as a mentor and modelling advanced practice skills to enhance the team's overall level of clinical skill and delivery of safe, family-centered patient care.
Additional responsibilities include:
Delivering and engaging in ongoing professional development and education to maintain and build capability of the team, including your own skills and knowledge. Educating patients and caregivers on post-tertiary care management and providing necessary review care plans. Offering advanced orthotic clinical advice and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams for comprehensive patient care. Contributing to service delivery planning and implementing quality improvement and change management strategies. Representing the service on relevant committees, both internal and external, and building stakeholder relationships that benefit our service. A tertiary qualification in Prosthetics and Orthotics and eligibility for full membership of the Australian Orthotic Prosthetic Association (AOPA) is required for this role.
Experience in a paediatric setting will be highly regarded but is not required for this role.

About our Orthotics Service The Orthotics Service provides orthoses to children and young adults from birth to 16 years who require treatment for a wide range of conditions in both the inpatient (25%) and outpatient settings (75%). Our dedicated staff of clinical orthotists and technical officers work closely with a number of multidisciplinary teams across Medical, Allied health, and Nursing, including, for example, Orthopaedics and Rehab Medicine.
As the state-wide Orthotics Service in Western Australia, we craft innovative custom-made orthoses for a range of conditions to promote mobility and for correction and prevention of various conditions. Additionally, we fit off-the-shelf orthoses to children with DDH, CTEV, for fracture management and a range of other presentations. As part of maintaining a contemporary service, we access emerging technology including 3D scanners and software to support production of orthoses. We are implementing 3D printing within the service as part of a current improvement project.
Our creative and robust education program focuses on building and developing the breadth and depth of skills within our team and includes presentations from specialty departments, external experts, group training sessions and fittings, journal club, case study analysis, and more.
