Position : Occupational Therapist
Reporting to : Allied Health Team Leader
POSITION STATEMENT:
To provide evidence based and outcome orientated individual assessment, treatment, and consultative Occupational Therapy services to an agreed caseload of participants, with a broad range of disabilities. The Occupational Therapist works in consultation with the Allied Health Team Leader and directly within an interdisciplinary team of other Allied Health staff.
KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
This position may have relationships with a diverse range of employees, external service providers, organisations, and stakeholders within the community, with the view to providing the most appropriate and effective services and supports to the people they support.
 
Examples of key relationships are detailed in the following table:
Internal : Program managers, team leaders, disability support workers, support coordinators, quality & risk, occupational therapists.
External : The position requires liaison with participants, carers and families, community members, and staff from external agencies.
POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Four days a week dedicated to assisting homecare and NDIS clients in the community.
- One day a week devoted to leading a small team of OT's this includes referral allocation, facilitating team meetings, providing mentorship & organising professional development.
- Quarterly alignment days, where collaboration with other team leaders aims to enhance team culture, well-being, strategic objectives, and client satisfaction.
- Assisting in the development of graduates to help them excel as Occupational Therapists.
- Fortnightly leadership meetings to monitor team progress and offer leadership support.
- Plan and deliver in-service education to other staff and community members as required.
- Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement within the service.
- Work collaboratively with others whenever appropriate, in a manner which respects the contributions of all team members.
- Identify opportunities for improvements and liaise with Allied Health Team Leader to plan quality improvements.
- Educate participants, their partners, family and friends in rehabilitation procedures, such as home exercises and lifestyle changes, to enhance participants health and wellbeing.
- Deliver therapy sessions or assessment to clients and write notes on these.
- Design, review, monitor, assess and evaluate treatment programmes.
- Write NDIS reviews or letters to doctors, as required.
- Provide participant driven therapy services to participants in their home and community environments, focusing on their personal goals, including recommendations and tracking participant progress.
- Provide therapy services either individually or as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Liaise with external services, such as other health professionals, NDIA related entities, family members, educational staff and community members, to provide individualised support plans.
- Provide accurate, timely and high-quality reports.
- Fall prevention, education, and strength training.
- Monitor, track and record own statistical data, to ensure targets are achieved and funding is secured.
- Ensure services are delivered within the framework of the organisations policies and procedures, legislative requirements, and meet the relevant service standards.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities, as directed by the Manager or delegate.
MANDATORY TRAINING:
- Qualification for Occupational Therapy
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Worker Orientation Module – NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission
- Induction – including OHS and Team Member Handbook
- Any other training that is deemed appropriate for the role
MANDATORY SKILLS:
- Qualifications and experience relevant to the role.
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulations Agency (AHPRA) where required.
- Experience providing services to people and children with disability with complex behaviour needs, desirable.
- Intermediate level computer/keyboard skills and proficiency using Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. Ability to adapt to operation of databases and other software as required.
- Experience working as an Occupational Therapist.
- Well-developed communication, advocacy, and negotiation skills.
- Proven experience in a consumer-focused role with the ability to deliver a high standard of customer service and meet the needs of complex participants.
- Proven ability to manage time effectively, including prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Current drivers' licence.
- Experience working with the disability sector.
