Our client is an ASX-listed junior explorer with a keen focus on gold, but also having experience across a range of commodities including base metals and iron ore who is looking for a Senior Mine Planner with Drill & Blast experience.
Key Tasks & Duties Mining Operations Work to achieve mine plan and cost targets. Collaborate with operations and technical teams for safe and practical design and mine plan execution. Safety Actively contribute through "visible felt leadership" that emphasises the importance of engagement, personal connection and purposeful action in achieving organisational goals for safety. Ensure all incidents are reported and managed in accordance with the Mine Safety Management System (MSMS). Ensure all actual or potentially unsafe conditions or activities, mishaps, incidents, accidents, injuries, or illnesses in the workplace are reported and corrective controls implemented. Environment Ensure that the environmental risks of tasks are assessed and mitigated. Adhere to environmental procedures to ensure good housekeeping, resource conservation, spill prevention and the appropriate disposal of wastes. Report all environmental incidents. This is offered on 8 days on, 6 days off roster and is FIFO from Perth.
The senior mine planning engineer is responsible for creating optimisations and schedules, updating short-term, medium-term, and long-term mine plans, and related data management, analysis, and modelling, which will be used to optimise the value of mineral resources. The position will also act as a project manager in their absence, except for statutory responsibilities, which will only be accepted by mutual agreement.
Relevant Experience Practical experience in open-cut mine planning (minimum five years), including knowledge of drill and blast practices and liaising with the mining and haulage contractor(s) Minimum of five years experience in open-pit narrow-vein gold mining. Demonstrated experience in optimisation, scheduling, mine design, and cost evaluation. Advanced skills in Deswick, Surpac, Whittle optimisation and relevant scheduling software. Strong practical understanding of safety systems and open pit production mining methods (minimum two years). Proficiency in technical report writing, problem-solving, and presenting and communicating information. Key Accountabilities Engineering processes and systems that maximise mining efficiency and safe operations. Short-term, medium-term (13 weeks) and long-term mine schedules. Pit optimisations and designs and mine infrastructure design tasks. Periodic production reporting (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly) of mine performance with causal factors for variance against planned. Verify and sign off drill and blast plans and maintain "Blast-Master". Assist with Project Manager duties, other than statutory responsibilities. Liaise with all contractors daily to address potential project constraints and plan effectively to prevent contractor delays. Review, track, and approve planned mining activities daily with associated standby and daily hire charges to facilitate accurate reconciliation with end-of-month invoice claims. Oversee contract management, including identification of all commercial claims and entitlements, ensuring they are sought in the company's best interests. Track and report deliverables and explain variances to the project budget and schedule. Review the monthly cost reports and ensure all direct project costs are correctly allocated/coded.
