Psychology, Counselling & Social Work (Healthcare & Medical) Full time Salary: $98,000 to $103,000 per annum + Superannuation
The Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service (DYHS) was established in 1974 and is the largest Aboriginal community-controlled health service provider in Western Australia, providing care to over 20,000 Aboriginal patients across four clinics in East Perth, Mirrabooka, Maddington and Midland. Our staff enable the delivery of culturally responsive primary health services, focusing on prevention, early intervention, comprehensive care and care coordination including chronic disease management.

Salary packaging up to $15,900 Study leave Employee Assistance Program 12 days of personal leave per year NAIDOC Day holiday About the role This pivotal role within the SEWB Counselling Team involves extensive clinical leadership and governance, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, culturally safe Social and Emotional Wellbeing services to our Aboriginal community. An AHPRA registered Psychologist, Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker, or someone engaged in a related profession can be suitable for this role.
Team Description The Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Team is a dedicated group of professionals providing culturally informed social and emotional wellbeing support to the Aboriginal community. The team works collaboratively to address the needs of clients, ensuring holistic care that respects and incorporates cultural practices. Together, we create a safe and supportive environment for clients, delivering interventions that promote recovery, resilience, and emotional wellness.
Responsibilities Provide strong and culturally informed clinical leadership within the SEWB Counselling Team, guiding best practice in mental health care and fostering a collaborative team environment. Lead clinical governance activities, including oversight of clinical protocols, standards of care, and compliance with relevant regulations, ensuring continuous improvement in service delivery. Develop, implement, and review comprehensive care plans tailored to the unique needs of clients, ensuring culturally appropriate and holistic care. Apply a thorough understanding of the Mental Health Act WA in clinical practice, ensuring that all legal and ethical obligations are met in the care and treatment of clients. Provide peer supervision and mentorship to clinicians within the team, supporting their professional growth and ensuring high standards of clinical care. Lead the development of clinical risk assessments and management plans, ensuring that potential risks are identified and mitigated effectively. Oversee the triage and intake processes, ensuring timely and accurate assessment of clients and appropriate referral to services. Coordinate the delivery of services within the SEWB Counselling Team, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a seamless client experience. Manage the rostering of counselling staff, ensuring adequate coverage and the efficient allocation of resources to meet service demands. Provide direct line management to the counselling team, including performance management, professional development, and support in managing complex clinical cases. Selection Criteria ESSENTIAL AHPRA Registration: Registered with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as Psychologist/Mental Health Nurse/Social Worker or some other related profession. Extensive Clinical Leadership: Demonstrated experience in leading and managing clinical teams within a mental health setting, particularly in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Clinical Governance Expertise: Proven ability to lead clinical governance activities, ensuring adherence to best practice standards and continuous quality improvement. Care Planning Skills: Experience in developing and implementing culturally appropriate and holistic care plans for clients with complex mental health needs. Knowledge of Mental Health Act WA: Proficiency in applying the Mental Health Act WA in clinical settings, ensuring compliance with all legal and ethical requirements. Peer Supervision Experience: Demonstrated ability to provide peer supervision, mentoring, and support to clinical staff. Clinical Risk Management: Strong skills in clinical risk formulation, including the development and implementation of effective risk management plans. Triage and Intake Management: Experience in managing triage and intake processes, ensuring clients receive timely and appropriate care. Coordination and Rostering Skills: Proven ability to coordinate services and manage staff rosters effectively to meet the needs of clients and the team. Line Management Experience: Demonstrated experience in line management, including performance management and supporting staff with complex cases. DESIRABLE Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
