Obstetrics at Narrogin   This is a Recruitment Pool for Fixed Term Full Time, Fixed Term Part Time or Sessional appointments at various hours per fortnight for 5 years, with the possibility of extension(s). Key Responsibilities: Performs clinical duties and provides patient care in the wards and Emergency Department (ED) as required in accordance with policies, procedures and site instructions. Admits patients to the hospital according to need and manages their care with assistance from multidisciplinary teams. Refers patients to specialist services as clinically indicated. Manages patients with chronic disease in consultation with multidisciplinary teams. Supervising and supporting Junior Medical Officers (JMO) in the ED, Providing obstetric and/or anaesthetic services for the hospital including provision of on-call services. Obstetrics Overview: In addition to supporting the ED, you will play a pivotal part in providing essential maternity and obstetrics care to our rural community. You'll conduct approximately 2 to 3 deliveries per week, with a focus on low to medium-risk deliveries, ensuring the safety and well-being of expectant mothers and their newborns. In the event of high-risk situations, we maintain a seamless transfer process to Perth, located just 2 hours away, guaranteeing access to advanced medical care. Our hospital boasts a state-of-the-art maternity birthing suite, complete with a two-bed birthing suite and a spacious bath for water births, enhancing the birthing experience. Additionally, we have a four-bed ward dedicated to postnatal care, where you will provide exceptional support. Operating within a midwifery group practice style, you'll foster continuity of care and collaborate closely with General Practitioners Obstetricians (GPOs) during regular visits. Anaesthetics Overview: In addition to supporting the ED, you will play a vital part in delivering anaesthesia services, particularly for challenging cases including procedural sedation and airway management. Our hospital is well-equipped, with upgraded theatres and an array of state-of-the-art equipment, providing you with the tools needed to excel in your role. Surgeries are performed approximately four days a week at Narrogin Hospital, and you will collaborate closely with visiting general surgeons, gynaecologists, and orthopaedic specialists, as well as occasional minor plastic surgeons, and eye surgeons. This diverse surgical environment offers a unique opportunity to broaden your anaesthesia expertise and contribute to a wide range of medical procedures. As a critical member of our healthcare team, you will also play a pivotal role in assisting our 24/7 on-call service for maternity cases, including caesarean sections and other obstetrics procedures. Roster: A typical roster would involve working shifts in the ED and/or the In-patient Ward, plus one day a week in Theatre (if SMP Anaesthetics) or Antenatal Clinic (if SMP Obstetrics) plus on-call (typically 1 in 3 for anaesthetics or obstetrics). ED shifts are 12 hours, either day or night shifts, with support from JMOs during the day. Working an ED shift you will be working on-the-floor, and when on-call the SMP Anaesthetics would support the ED doctor with airway issues, vascular access, and sicker patients, and the SMP Obstetrics would support ED with some gynaecology or maternity presentations, as well as covering maternity on-call.  In-patient ward shifts are 8 hours, with support from JMOs.
