The Medical Physics and Radiation Engineering (MPRE) department at Canberra Health Services is composed of medical physics specialists in radiation oncology, nuclear medicine, and radiology. The advertised position is for a senior radiation oncology medical physics specialist.
The Radiation Oncology department has undergone notable changes, including the implementation of Eclipse (Acuros XB and eMC) and the replacement of all four linacs with three Truebeams and an Edge with Exactrac imaging. We host both ARIA and Eclipse in the cloud, with over 80% of our patients treated using VMAT. We have a well-established SRS and SBRT program and are currently implementing RapidPlan and Velocity workflows. Early next year, we will commission SGRT for our non-stereo linacs. Other treatment services include superficial x-ray therapy and brachytherapy, with both modalities being replaced next year. We maintain a strong collaborative relationship with the Radiation Oncology department to develop and deliver state-of-the-art radiotherapy for our cancer patients.
The department participates in the Trans-Tasman Radiation Oncology Cooperative Group (TROG) and other clinical trials. Our team members collaborate with the University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, University of Wollongong, University of Canberra, and the Australian National University. We are involved in machine learning and artificial intelligence projects related to radiotherapy with the AusCAT (Australian Computer Aided Theragnostic) group. Furthermore, the department is accredited to train ACPSEM TEAP registrars in diagnostic radiology and radiation oncology medical physics.
The successful applicant will provide a full range of medical physics services, including day-to-day operations, equipment commissioning, development projects, and implementation of future services. As a senior, you will report to the team leader and manage one or more service delivery areas, including machine quality assurance.
