The PositionWe are on the lookout for a Senior Medical Officer - Rural Generalist for Permanent flexible or Fixed term temporary flexible, for up to two years in QueenslandThe purpose of this position is to provide high quality clinical services, and in particular ACRRM trainee and junior doctor supervision and training, as a part of the multidisciplinary team delivering integrated primary, community and secondary level health services to the Indigenous community of Palm Island. Cultural safety is paramount.The medical officers of Joyce Palmer Health Service (JPHS) will work in the Palm Island Primary Care Centre on rotation and they will assist in maintaining functional connections between the Centres to ensure continuity of care for patients.Health ServiceJPHS has 15 beds, a 2 bay Emergency Department, a satellite haemodialysis unit, pharmacy and x-ray (provided by licenced x-ray operators). The Palm Island Health Action Plan 2018 – 2028 guides delivery of comprehensive services. Primary health care services are delivered from a separate location, Palm Island Primary Health Care Centre, with its own leadership in collaboration with JPHS and are transitioning to community control. JPHS will develop more aged care services over the coming years.The LocationGreat Palm Island is the largest island in the Palm Island group and the only one with a significant population of permanent residents, most of whom are Aboriginal. The language name "Bwgcolman", meaning "one people from many groups", is derived from an Aboriginal language of one of the earliest groups of people removed from the mainland and settled there from 1918. In the 2016 census, Palm Island had a population of 2 455 people.Eligible health workers who make the move (interstate or international) will receive a $30,000 (PFT) or Pro rata (PPT) initial incentive payment followed by a further $20,000 after completion 12 months continuous service (PFT) or Pro rata (PPT) and a further $20,000 incentive payment after completion of 24 months continuous service ( PFT) or Pro rata (PPT). Totalling $70,000 in incentive payments.Essential CriteriaA Fellowed and experienced Rural Generalist who is eligible for accreditation as a supervisor – FACRRM or FRACGP with appropriate rural/remote experience. Demonstrated capability and experience in at least one of the following Advanced Skills disciplines is highly desirable: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Remote Medicine or Emergency Medicine. Demonstrated capability in procedural anaesthetics and/or obstetrics would be well regarded. Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership (if applicable) with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to commencement of clinical duties. The role will participate in the On-Call roster.The PackageTotal Remuneration Package up to $408,129 Base Salary up to $266,677 (L27) Motor Vehichle Allowance up to $25,500 Senior Medical Officers will accrue 3.6 weeks of Professional Development Leave each year, up to a maximum of 10 years accrual. 5 weeks annual leave with 17.5% annual leave loading. Communication Package. Salary sacrificing for up to $17,000 grossed up taxable equivalent value. For medical practitioners appointed to the "Medical Officer Advanced Credentialed Practice – Rural Generalist" pay scale an allowance of 40% of base salary. Relocation AssistanceRegional and Rural Attraction Allowance of 5% of your base rate.
