In 2024, service activity will increase with the commissioning of another 1500-cell correctional facility, currently under construction in the Gatton region, when that facility reaches capacity West Moreton Health will house half of Queensland's prisoner population.

The role of Senior Medical Officer is to provide primary health care services and clinical leadership within the Prison Health Services and is required to work across all correctional facilities within West Moreton Health Service.
This position is based at The Park Centre for Mental Health; however, visits to the correctional facilities in the West Moreton region are expected.
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following: Commitment to the principles of quality in health care including contributing to initiatives relating to quality improvement, research, risk management, and the improvement of patient and service outcomes.Extensive clinical experience with appropriate knowledge and skills in providing a primary health service in a correctional environment, with an ability to deliver quality specialist care to patients in a clinical setting including directing the process of assessment, admission, ongoing care, transfer and discharge of patients.Communicate in a way that is appropriate for the situation, and that promotes trust, respect and integrity with patients and colleagues.Commitment to leading the performance, development and education program of clinicians at an undergraduate and postgraduate level.Models ethical behaviour and consistently applies those ethical standards to self and others.Ensures all people, patients and colleagues are treated with dignity and respect in all healthcare settings.Mandatory Requirements: Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO.
