Our land and seascapes are distinctive, home to plants and animals found nowhere else in the world, and to some of the oldest living cultures on earth. The Director of National Parks (the Director) is responsible for six national parks, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, 58 Australian Marine Parks and the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Marine Reserve established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Parks Australia is the federal park agency that supports the Director, and they are a division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department).The JobUnder limited supervision and at the direction of the Tourism Team Leader:Develop and manage relationships with relevant stakeholders from the media and tourism industry to develop major media projects benefiting the park.Manage and supervise all media activities for major events and VIP visits to the park.Manage and supervise all media crews working in the Park to ensure adherence to EPBC Regulations and the media guidelines.Oversee the management of the park's permit system for Commercial Image Capture, Use and Commercial Sound Recording.Supervise and oversee all aspects of media email administration.Liaise with Parks Australia Media Office and relevant stakeholders on complex media matters, including large scale media applications, proposals and social media communications.Provide advice and secretariat support to meetings of the Board of Management's Media Working Group; and manage and develop production and post production activities for park media material for promotional purposes.As an effective member of the team, mentor and support staff in a cross-cultural environment and provide supervision to Media Officer/s.Share the Traditional Owner's vision for the future of the park and facilitate the exchange of knowledge, experience and skills between Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff and public and work with Indigenous staff and stakeholders that speak Pitjantjatjara and/or Yankunytjatjara as a first language.All duties will be performed in accordance with the Park's Lease Agreement, the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) and Management Plan.You may be required to perform occasional out-of-hours and weekend work.You may be required wear an official uniform supplied by the department, including during field operations (as applicable), in accordance with the department's uniform policy.The physical requirements of the role involve a combination of outdoor and office-based work.What we are looking forKnowledge and experienceAn awareness of issues affecting Indigenous people in remote locations and the ability to contribute sensitively and effectively to the joint management of the park as well as developing and supporting relationships based on mutual trust, respect and consideration of values and culture.Demonstrated experience in a media role and knowledge and understanding of the media industry; and the ability to effectively manage time, prioritise and meet deadlines.Skills and capabilitiesExcellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability in building and maintaining productive relationships with stakeholders and staff including supervising staff from a variety of backgrounds in a remote and cross cultural workplace.Excellent organisational skills, an attention to detail and the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation and policy guidelines.Tertiary qualifications in Journalism, media or a similar field.Apply First Aid Certificate or the willingness to obtain this certificate. Parks Australia regularly provides first aid training courses to staff members.Eligibility and other requirementsCitizenship - To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.Pre-employment Check - Your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and where required a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a probation period of 6 months.Driver's Licence – You must hold and maintain a valid Australian motor vehicle drivers licence.Working with Children Clearance - You must hold and maintain an Ochre Card from the Northern Territory Government. If you do not currently hold an Ochre Card you must obtain one within 4 weeks of commencing in the role.
