Summary:
The Museum of Old and New Art (Mona) has an opportunity for an experienced and proactive media and PR professional to join the team. This role is responsible for generating local, national and international publicity for Mona and the organisation's many projects and related brands, as well as a broad range of PR and communications activity. Reporting to the Head of Media & Public Affairs, you will work closely with colleagues across all areas to build and manage Mona's reputation among a variety of stakeholders.
The Gig: Develop and lead publicity plans for Mona and the organisation's wide range of offerings and activities, including, but definitely not limited to:A changing program of exhibitions, events and the museum's collection of ancient, modern and contemporary art. The largest private collection in Australia;Dark Mofo, a winter festival roaring back to life in 2025;Mona's installation and infrastructure projects (we love building things);An extensive library, with a significant development on the horizon.Work with the team and external contractors on an array of other brands, projects, launches and news stories.Manage end-to-end delivery of campaigns including strategy, messaging, media calls and photo ops and the preparation of all press materials.Identify, develop and maintain strategic relationships with key media in Tasmania, on the mainland, and further afield.Support the Head of Media & Public Affairs on reputation management, government relations, horizon scanning and crisis communications.Prepare senior spokespeople for media events and public appearances; provide specialist advice on media and PR management.Manage filming and photography requests—commercial and otherwise—and all other on-ground PR activity, including famils and private functions.Oversee media reporting and work closely with the team on the day-to-day running of the press office, responding to requests and enquiries in a timely manner.Member of on-call media and issues roster.The You: You'll be a dynamic operator, with a strong track record in developing and delivering successful publicity campaigns on a range of budgets.You're an excellent project manager, with a proven ability to meet deadlines under challenging and/or changing conditions, and can do so within a multi-functional organisation.Your written and verbal communication skills are outstanding, and you possess sharp attention to detail.You'll have an exceptional capacity to develop professional, trusted relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, from journalists to colleagues across the entire organisation.Strong interest in art, culture and communications.Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline; 5+ years experience in a PR agency, in-house role or as a freelance publicist is desirable.Deadline: Thursday 19 December 2024
