About the role In a global landscape driven by innovation in energy use and storage, Tritium leads in the design, manufacture, and distribution of fast charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
Building on past successes, the company is now hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer to report directly to the Head of Sustaining Engineering as part of the Sustaining Engineering team in Murarrie, Brisbane.
You will ensure the reliability of our products in the field and optimise production efficiency across global manufacturing facilities.
Your role will focus on sustaining and enhancing the performance of our products through engineering support and continuous improvement initiatives.
The Mechanical Engineer's core responsibility is to deliver lifecycle engineering solutions, focusing on the design, development, and verification of products, tools, and equipment.
Key areas include bracketry, cooling systems, exterior panels, body structure, charge cable systems, compliance testing, packaging and installation kits, as well as spare parts and field servicing.
You will manage requirements gathering, design components and assemblies, and create manufacturing drawings and specifications, covering the entire process from concept to production build, field installation, and servicing.
As a Senior Design Responsible Engineer (DRE), you will lead the development of assigned mechanical systems and commodities, mentoring junior engineers to ensure all design solutions adhere to Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Serviceability (DFS) principles.
You will optimize these systems through cross-functional collaboration with suppliers, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, validation, and certification teams to ensure compatibility across products.
You will need a strong foundation in mechanical engineering, with proven experience leading/managing complex projects from concept to completion.
Proficiency in DFM/DFA/DFS principles, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines are essential.

Design and Development: Create mechanical components, assemblies, tools, and systems through all product lifecycle stages, following DFM/DFA/DFS principles.Research and Validation: Perform research, stress calculations (by hand/FEA), and validation testing to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.Develop solutions that enhance product performance, increase competitiveness and ensure full life cycle support through modernisation and continuous improvement.Technical Support: Assist various departments in implementing new products/features, managing spare parts, performing root cause analysis, and optimising production processes.Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with electrical, software, manufacturing, and quality engineers to integrate mechanical systems seamlessly.Product Optimisation: Lead and participate in design reviews, suggesting product enhancements and cost saving measures.Documentation and Compliance: Maintain technical documentation and ensure designs meet safety standards and regulatory codes.Continuous Improvement: Apply engineering best practices; lead FMEAs and implement corrective actions using PDCA; optimise products through Design to Cost and Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE).Demonstrate a strong sense of ownership for projects and products and become a subject matter expert for stakeholders.Stay current with industry trends and technologies in electric vehicle charging systems.Adhere to Tritium WHS and other business policies.About you: Degree in Mechanical Engineering, with 5-10 years of experience.Expertise in 3D parametric modelling software.Experience with PLM and related tools.Demonstrated hands-on experience with prototype building.Demonstrated experience in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.Demonstrated knowledge/familiarity of Drafting Standards, e.g., AS 1100.Proficient in the design of Jigs/Fixtures and Tooling to ensure manufacturability.Proficient in the application of DFM/DFA/DFS principles.Proficient in the application of both design and process FMEA.Proficient in the application of calculations and FEA simulation to validate design intent.Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and product design principles.Experienced in the compilation of compliance documentation and reporting.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Strong attention to detail, analytical problem-solving, and ability to work independently as well as across disciplines and departments.Highly motivated and enthusiastic, with the ability to work under pressure and time constraints.Highly Desirable: Proficiency in SolidWorks & Windchill.Experience working with JIRA workflow.Experience working in mass manufacturing environments.Experience with EMC test equipment and standards.Experienced in leading & mentoring small teams.Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards for electric vehicle charging systems, such as SAE J1772, UL 2202, IEC 61851.Experienced in Lean / Lean Six Sigma frameworks, tools, and principles (desirable).Experience in an Automotive or High Technology Manufacturing environment would be of interest.What's on offer Our people are our most important asset.
