Senior Mechanical Engineer

Mills Recruitment is seeking a skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our client's dynamic team in Brisbane. Our client is a leader in delivering high-impact projects across Australia, including:

Mines
Minerals processing facilities
LNG installations
Refineries
Chemical plants
Power stations
Procurement services
Telecommunications infrastructure

In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, and optimisation of mechanical systems, with a focus on materials handling equipment. You will work on rail-mounted machines such as stackers, reclaimers, ship unloaders, and ship loaders, with a strong emphasis on conveyor systems. Depending on your experience, you may also supervise and mentor a small team of engineers.
Responsibilities include:

Developing and documenting designs for rail-mounted machines.
Utilizing your expertise in conveyor design to create efficient material handling solutions.
Applying Discrete Element Modelling (DEM) software to improve design accuracy (experience with DEM software is advantageous).
Conducting field investigations and client interviews to define project scope and develop cost estimates.
Leading the design and evaluation of mechanical components and processes.
Collaborating with specialty groups, clients, vendors, contractors, and construction teams to ensure seamless project execution.
Providing technical recommendations to resolve complex mechanical issues.
Preparing conceptual studies, designs, reports, and proposals.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
10-13 years of relevant experience, or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
Strong knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, and engineering methods related to materials handling and conveyor design.
Proficient in MS Office suite and other relevant engineering software.
Strong problem-solving capabilities and experience in project planning.
Excellent communication skills.
Enthusiasm for both independent and team-based work.
