We currently have an exciting new opportunity for a dynamic and seasoned Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our high performing Asset and Engineering team.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Mechanical Services Infrastructure Asset Manager is Melbourne Airport's SME responsible for the Mechanical, HVAC and Central Energy Plant asset portfolio throughout the Airport's 2700 Hectare lease which includes the Terminal, Car Park, Business Park, Aviation Maintenance and Airfield precincts.
The role requires your leadership and advocacy with respect to network planning, technical, operational, and capital delivery aspects of this asset portfolio including responsibility for the operations management of the central energy plant which uses circa 20% of the energy required for operating Melbourne's 4 passenger terminals and is rapidly decarbonising.
You will be our SME and interface for Melbourne Airport's capital plan which is circa $500M increasing to $1B per annum and you will be responsible for briefing the technical requirements and completion of the Mechanical Services / HVAC asset portfolio whilst also responsible for your own Capital Program of circa $10M pa associated with Replacement Expenditure and System Upgrades to enhance performance and mitigate risk.
Melbourne Airport has a net zero strategy of zero scope 1 and scope 2 emissions by the end of 2025 and will initially offset scope 1 emissions for heating via gas boilers transitioning to the replacement of gas boiler plant with electrical heat pumps powered by our green energy portfolio.
You will be a key part of the project team delivering this project and will also lead initiatives to reduce energy intensity of our HVAC systems including continuous tuning of our central plant and HVAC systems.

Key responsibilities:The role's duties and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
Capital budgeting over the asset life cycleOperational budgeting for asset portfolio including preventative, emergency, and reactive maintenance over asset life cycleSubject matter expert and technical lead for Mechanical / HVAC Assets to drive continuous improvement in asset utilisation, life-cycle cost and operational efficienciesNetwork planning of thermal network to ensure capacity and reliability of network is maintained consistent with growth of terminal precinctBrief technical requirements across the whole Capital PlanManaging and interfacing with contractors and/or service providersMaintaining Asset Data including drawings, schedules, asset lists etcReview and Approve design data and as-installed data ensuring consistency with Technical Standards and requirements briefThe successful candidate will have:Mechanical engineer experience / contracting experience within sector preferredDemonstrable technical proficiency in mechanical serviceA minimum of 7-years engineering and/or construction experienceCore understanding of key asset requirements from Design, Build, Operate and Maintain.Mechanical Engineering / Building Services Degree or equivalentWe understand that not everyone will feel they meet all of these 100%.
