Join us as we contribute to this significant transition in the energy sector.About the roleAEMO's System Planning team is seeking a Senior Market Modelling Analyst to assist in forecasting and planning the transformation of Australia's electricity networks while maintaining reliable and secure energy supplies. This role will require your critical thinking to Australia's evolving energy landscape, and you will be rewarded by playing a key role in planning the energy system of the future.As a Senior Market Modelling Analyst, you will lead and support the development, advisement, and communication of medium to long term forecasts of electricity energy resources. This will require a mix of forecast methods, techniques such as market dispatch optimisation, machine learning, statistical, econometric, economic, and technical/engineering approaches. Your leadership and mentoring will support the team on technical modelling matters and will have a specific focus on supporting AEMO's National Planner function.You will be required to interpret a large amount of information to understand industry sectors in transition, technological and behavioural change, and periods of potentially disruptive transformation of the energy sector.This role is available in all locationsWhat you will be doingSupport and lead the development of reports or publications in the analysis of forecasting/market studies and issues impacting the energy industry including interpretation of analysis performed by othersCommunicate analytical insights to a broad audience, including senior management and other internal and external stakeholdersEffectively engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure work activities are addressed across teams, and issues are openly discussed and constructively critiquedSupport team members in the performance of their tasks where requiredParticipate in all safety activities, including but not limited to briefings, training, toolbox discussions, or any other activity that promotes health and safety within the workplaceWhat you will bring to the roleProven experience in energy market modelling role in industry or consulting is essentialProven deep knowledge of PLEXOS or other energy market simulation software is essentialExperience working with analysis tools such as MS Office suite, SQL, R, VBA, Python, Power BI, and DatabricksStrong quantitative analysis capability, utilising databases and spreadsheets to design and run data analysisStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to draw out conclusions from modelling resultsSound knowledge of energy market principles, NEM, WEM, or gas markets dispatch process, generator behaviour, network constraints, and power system operationKnowledge of the energy environment and the political, legal and regulatory framework in which AEMO and electricity industry operates, or the ability to acquire such knowledgeEffective verbal and written communication skillsAble to build and maintain constructive working relationships with internal and external stakeholdersIn return some of our benefits to youFlexible working: work from home, part time, job share, hybrid options, and additional leave optionsProfessional development via projects, industry networks, job rotation, study assistance and moreGive back with up to 4 days of volunteering leave per yearReward your hard work with annual performance bonuses (subject to eligibility)Embrace a healthier you with our wellness program, discounted health insurance, gym perks and our comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP)About Our ProcessAEMO values diversity and inclusivity in the workplace, welcoming applications from all backgrounds without regard to age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, parental status, race, religion and our First Nation peoples.
