The team Companies and Small Business focuses on ASIC's role to regulate and supervise the companies and small business sector to ensure the sector adheres to the laws administered by ASIC, and to promote market integrity and an even playing field for small business.
The team focuses on corporate governance conduct and disclosure, financial reporting and audit quality, conduct of registered liquidators, and engagement with the small business sector.
Companies and Small Business conducts proactive surveillance and monitoring, considers applications for relief from legislative requirements, provides support to regulatory reform activities, and actively engages with relevant stakeholders to understand and respond to current and emerging industry issues.
The role As a Senior Manager, Beneficial Ownership, you will: * Lead projects to implement corporate governance law reform, including disclosure of the beneficial ownership of Australian companies.
* Lead teams to identify, assess, and respond to compliance concerns with corporate governance obligations, including the beneficial ownership disclosure regime * Lead and oversee risk-based data-driven supervision of the companies and small business sector and identify new ways to use data to deliver priorities.
* Ensure ASIC has appropriate expertise and knowledge of the companies and small business sector to carrying out ASIC's functions.
* Maintain knowledge of ASIC's regulatory framework and toolkit, relevant legislative and reporting requirements, domestic and international developments, and best industry practice models.
* Apply significant judgement to choose a course of action to manage highly complex and/or sensitive issues.
* Communicate to internal and external audiences in an effective, engaging, and influential way.
* Provide and apply expertise to assess complex matters such as applications for relief, reports of alleged misconduct, and conduct and disclosure concerns.
* Actively participate in the Companies and Small Business Leadership Team.
About you * A relevant tertiary qualification and membership of relevant professional body.
* Deep knowledge of Australian financial markets and an understanding of the sector from a regulatory, operations, risk, or client service viewpoint.
* Technical knowledge and practical experience in corporate governance and disclosure obligations and the corporate regulatory framework.
* Strong skills in strategic thinking, analysis, including data analysis, investigation, research, presentation, and ability to identify emerging trends and risk areas.
* Ability to develop strategic relationships.
* Highly developed conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills, ability to draw reasoned inferences from quantitative and qualitative data and to reach robust and practical conclusions.
* Experience leading a high-performing team, providing strategic direction, and coaching for performance.
* A strong understanding of the corporate regulatory framework, including legislation, industry standards, compliance frameworks, and guidance.
* Experience managing complex transactions or projects requiring critical thinking and judgement, gained working in the relevant industry or a regulatory environment.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to prepare concise and accurate report to Executives and Boards, strong attention to detail in all technical matters and a continuous improvement approach to process and practice.
