The Office is tasked with a significant responsibility: bringing together a holistic, connected system for early childhood development across South Australia, with the goal of reducing the rate of children entering school developmentally vulnerable.
Critical to this is the roll-out of universal 3-year-old preschool from 2026, giving every child access to 2 years of teacher-led, play-based early learning before school.
About the role: We are seeking an experienced Senior Management Accountant to join our dynamic team at the Office for Early Childhood Development in South Australia.
This pivotal role offers the opportunity to shape financial decision-making and drive performance across corporate and reform activities.
The Senior Management Accountant plays a critical role for the Office for Early Childhood Development, exercising high levels of financial knowledge, expertise and experience to ensure robust financial controls, budget management, forecasting, estimates, analysis, performance reporting, audited financial statements, compliance to Treasurers Instructions and effective financial advice provision across the organisation's corporate and reform activities.
In this role, you will:
Lead the development and improvement of financial policies and procedures ensuring compliance with Treasurer's Instructions and government reporting standards.Provide expert financial advice, analysis, and forecasting to support business cases, procurement, grant management, and planning.Oversee budget management, including adjustments, forecasting, and alignment of funding to Full-Time Equivalents (FTE).Deliver high-quality financial consultancy services to the Executive Leadership Team and Program Leads.Build and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including the Department of Education and Treasury.About you: You are a seasoned finance professional with a deep understanding of public sector financial management, committed to driving excellence in budget oversight, compliance, and strategic decision-making.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who brings:
Expertise in Public Sector Finance: Strong experience in financial and budget management within the South Australian Public Sector, aligning with Treasurer's Instructions and government financial processes.Business Acumen: Ability to lead financial decision-making, manage complex issues, and adapt to change with flexibility and critical thinking.Effective Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate financial concepts to diverse audiences and build internal financial literacy.Problem-Solving: Strategic, analytical, and solution-focused approach to managing multiple, complex financial projects under pressure.Leadership: Experience leading teams and advising senior leadership in high-stakes, sensitive environments.Essential Qualification: A tertiary qualification in accountancy, finance, business management, or a relevant discipline.Application instructions and information: Applications should be made through the IWorkForSA website.

Additional Note: This is a full-time 2-year long term contract role (1.0 FTE) with potential to be made ongoing.
Remuneration: ASO8 $121,107 - $125,679 (1.0 FTE) per annum, plus superannuation.

Special Conditions: The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every 5 years before expiry.
The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN –EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years.
