THE ROLE The Senior Legal Policy Officer is responsible for providing legal policy, legislative reform and strategy advice in relation to forensic disability and complex needs policy and service activities.
By applying sound knowledge of relevant statutory frameworks, the role supports program and policy development for the Department's complex needs and forensic disability programs, which provide services and supports for people with cognitive impairment involved in the criminal justice system and people with complex functional needs experiencing significant service gaps.
The Senior Legal Policy Officer supports the co-ordination, research, development, implementation, review and reform of policy and legislation across complex needs and forensic disability policy initiatives.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE Support and contribute to the research, development and implementation of complex needs and forensic disability legal policy proposals, including:Researching and drafting considered and informed advice on key legal policy and legislation issues.Engaging, consulting and working collaboratively with partners across the department, the broader justice system and the disability and complex needs sectors.Identifying and contributing to the resolution of critical legal policy issues and contributing to monitoring and evaluation of complex needs and forensic disability initiatives in relation to legal policy implications.Ensure the project is delivered in accordance with relevant legislation and government regulations and guidelines.Pro-actively build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate a partnership approach with a particular focus on Legal Services Branch and Community Services Operations Division in relation to complex needs and forensic disability programs.HOW TO APPLY All VPS employees (and ex-VPS employees with extended access to the Jobs and Skills Exchange website) MUST apply via the Jobs and Skills Exchange portal.
