We have an exciting opportunity in the Legal Services team. The Legal Services team are specialists who provide independent legal advice and representation related to the construction, commercial and public administration activities of the department and assist in the development of legislation.
As Senior Legal Officer, you will assist with the protection of the legal interests of the Departments of Housing, Local Government, Planning and Public Works and the Department of Energy and Climate, specifically with respect to property, contractual and commercial matters. This position reports to the Director – Property Law and has no direct reports.
What we are looking for: Providing and ensuring the provision of quality, strategic, independent, and professional legal advice, and documentation to the departments about commercial law, property law and/or administrative law matters, with a focus on property and commercial law matters.Familiarity with the legislative enactment and amendment process will be considered beneficial. Experience in statutory interpretation is essential.Drafting, preparing, and reviewing a range of legal documents including leases, licences, easements, service agreements, contracts of sale, goods and services contracts, funding agreements, confidentiality deeds, privacy notices and land titles forms, with minimum supervision.Maintaining a high level of knowledge of contemporary issues and legal risk impacting on property law and related government policies and initiatives.Providing State-focused, quality independent advice regarding dispute resolution and the management of litigation relating to commercial and property law.Reviewing the work of more junior legal officers.How you will be assessed:

Mandatory requirements: Been admitted or be eligible for immediate admission as a legal practitioner by the Supreme Court of Queensland.Technical / operational expertise: High level knowledge and experience in contemporary property and commercial law.High level communication and relationship management skills.Liaising and negotiating effectively with relevant internal and external stakeholders on matters affecting the operations of the departments.Leadership competencies:
