$115,899 - $130,733 (EL 1) + BDCP + Super
General Counsel - Dispute Resolution and Litigation (GC-DRL) in Defence Legal is seeking appropriately qualified, dynamic and motivated EL 1 Legal Officers to join the Branch in its Canberra office.
Successful candidates will need to be able to work collaboratively within GC-DRL to manage, assess and advise on highly sensitive and often complex legal claims against the Commonwealth. These claims often involve financial and reputational risk.
Responsibilities:
Accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex to very complex legal work within an integrated workforce, requiring in-depth knowledge of legislative frameworks and Defence's mission.
Exercise independence and perform as a subject matter expert, providing expert policy advice and developing relevant policies and procedures.
May lead a project or administrative team, accountable for outcomes and resource management.
Manage key stakeholder relationships, identifying expectations and concerns to achieve outcomes.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known as the Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP).

GC-DR&L provides strategic legal advice on:
Managing claims against the Commonwealth including inquests, contractual disputes, and personal injury claims.
Responding to court orders and legislative requests.
Managing common law compensation claims.
Managing historic contamination-related claims.
