Your new role
This is a newly created role for a Senior Legal Counsel to join the team and provide a broad range of legal support to the Australian leadership team. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer based overseas with a dotted line report to the MD for Australia, while also working closely with the Head of Finance for Australia, you will be responsible for:
advising on all legal aspects of renewable energy projects, including real estate matters, permitting and grid connections and route to market;
supporting a range of corporate transactions including M&A, joint venture arrangements, and project financing;
reviewing, drafting and negotiating project contracts, agreements and related documents;
monitoring project timelines, milestones and deliverables to ensure legal compliance;
managing and instruct external legal counsel.
What you'll need to succeed
You will have 7-10 years post admission experience as an energy and projects lawyer in the renewables space, with a strong understanding of project financing requirements within the sector. Your experience will also include property law, permitting and environment, and corporate transactions which preferably has been gained from within a top-tier law firm setting. Additional in-house experience, which may include an in-house secondment in the renewable energy sector, will be highly regarded.
Importantly, you will have a strong commercial and entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to work proactively to assist the business in achieving its desired commercial objectives.
