Senior Legal Counsel (APAC) - Sydney Office The Legal Department at Ebury is core to the functioning of the Ebury Group. It provides front-line advice to all parts of the Ebury Group on legal, regulatory and governance matters which contribute to Ebury's growth every day.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven lawyer based in Sydneywho is keen to work in a fast-paced, dynamic and growing company. The successful candidate will provide high quality legal advice to key stakeholders in Australia and across APAC. As the first lawyer on the ground in the APAC region, this role will be instrumental in shaping the legal framework and supporting Ebury's strategic expansion in this key market. The person who fills this role will report to the General Counsel and collaborate with Ebury's global legal team.
Key Responsibilities: Drafting and negotiating agreements required to support Ebury's business and operational activity with third parties and on an intragroup basis.Contributing to the design and implementation of new products and expansion into new markets.Structuring and executing strategic initiatives such as refinancings, negotiations with banking partners, fundraising, M&A activity and transfers of significant equity stakes in Ebury Group companies.Advising on corporate structuring matters, working closely with the Chief Financial Officer and General Counsel to maintain and develop Ebury's corporate structure given its global footprint in an efficient manner, having regarding to regulatory, tax and other relevant matters.Drafting and advising on relationship agreements and other terms with customers, including foreign exchange and lending agreements.Supporting the General Counsel and Company Secretary to uphold best in class governance standards across APAC.Working with Front Office, Risk Department, HR, Operations and other departments to resolve day-to-day queries.Representing Ebury in interaction with clients, counterparties, banking partners, industry bodies and other third parties.Preparing templates, playbooks, procedures and self-service material and participating in the provision of relevant training and awareness programmes.Supporting the General Counsel in delivering the Legal Department's objectives generally, sharing knowhow and training and development of less experienced members of the team.Key requirements: A proactive mindset and an ability to communicate effectively in practical terms with stakeholders at all levels of the Ebury Group.Australian qualified lawyer with corporate and/or finance experience.Mandarin and/or Cantonese speaking abilities preferred but not essential.At least 6 years of post qualification experience, either in private practice or in house.Interest in the fintech sector and financial products.An ability in a fast paced environment to prioritise and manage a wide range of competing priorities (with support from other team members and external counsel where necessary).#LI-MO1
