We have an opportunity for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our collaborative, high performing and committed Office of Legal Counsel team.Senior Legal Counsels support the Chief Legal Counsel (CLC) and Deputy Chief Legal Counsel (DCLC) in providing strategic, high quality, practical and timely legal services to IP Australia.Senior Legal Counsels must have excellent communication skills, a strong client focus and the capacity to provide practical, strategic advice across a range of complex legal issues. They show initiative and can work both independently and under the direction of the CLC and DCLC. Senior Legal Counsels must exercise sound decision making skills and judgement which takes into account the agency's risk appetite.The key duties of the position includeManage requests for legal advice by acknowledging the request, seeking further information as required, managing client expectations and keeping clients informed of progressEnsure knowledge of and compliance with legislative, financial and administrative frameworks, government decision-making processes and agency guidelines and regulationsUse effective oral and written communication skills to contribute to and produce clear and accurate legal advice, building effective relationships with key stakeholdersProvide legal advice on a range of issues including statutory interpretation and administrative lawAdvise on commercial matters including contractual arrangements, procurements, finance law and delegationsAdvise on a range of complex and diverse legal issues including privacy law, employment law, litigation and intellectual property lawDraft and review legal documentation including documents relating to contracts, procurement, privacy and litigationAssist with the agency's FOI function including acting as decision maker for internal review matters and preparing submissions in response to OAIC reviewsEnsure compliance with the Legal Services Directions 2017Supervise and mentor legal counselsRepresent the interests of IP Australia and build positive relationships with relevant stakeholders including other Australian government agencies and external legal service providersBe flexible and adapt to changing priorities, and resilient and engaged when asked to adopt new practicesFor more information about this role, including the type of person we are looking for, please refer to the position profile available by clicking the 'Apply Now' button.#J-18808-Ljbffr
