Senior Legal Advisor, Independent National Security Legislation MonitorThe Independent National Security Legislation Monitor (the Monitor) is a statutory office holder whose primary functions are to independently review and report on the operation, effectiveness and implications of Australia's national security and counter-terrorism laws in accordance with the Independent National Security Legislation Monitor Act 2010 (INSLM Act).
The Monitor is seeking EL1 Senior Legal Advisors (SLAs) to assist in the delivery of these functions.
Working in small teams led by Principal Legal Advisors, the SLAs will conduct legal research and analysis, identify issues, consult and engage with stakeholders, and contribute significantly to the development of recommendations and preparation of reports.
An INSLM SLA will have an analytical mind, strong technical legal skills, and great attention to detail.
They will be a collaborative team player, outcome-driven, proactive, and display advanced interpersonal and communication skills that will facilitate effective engagement with government and non-government organisations, including civil society groups, in a law reform context.
Demonstrated experience in providing legal advice, litigation, or legislative drafting is highly desirable for these roles.

Our ideal candidate will have: a law degree and demonstrated experience in legal practice, legal research or law reform.
