About the Role In this opportunity as Senior Lawyer Writer, Data Protection, Privacy and Cybersecurity, you will:
Plan, research, write, draft, edit and maintain premium quality know-how resources including practice notes, standard documents, legal updates, checklists and drafting notes for lawyers.
Keep up to date with data protection, privacy, information security and cybersecurity topics and monitor legal, practice and market developments relevant to lawyers in both in-house and private practice environments.
Support internal peer review processes to ensure content is legally correct, kept continuously updated and maintained to reflect all relevant legal developments and reflect current market practice.
Meet with external customers, industry and sector experts to build a superior understanding of commercial law and related developments to ensure relevant and premium quality content is delivered that anticipates, meets and exceeds customer needs.
Provide legal expertise in responding to queries from external customers about data protection, privacy and cybersecurity law and practice.
Assist in the planning, development and publication of commissioned content authored by expert data protection, privacy and cybersecurity lawyers in private practice and in-house legal teams.
Provide additional editorial and product support, and support non-content related tasks and go-to-market initiatives as required.
About You You're a fit for the role of Senior Lawyer Writer, Data Protection, Privacy and Cybersecurity if you:
Are admitted to practise as a lawyer in Australia, with 5 years+ PQE experience, working as a data and privacy lawyer, most recently in an in-house role or a top/mid-tier private practice.
Have an in-depth understanding of data protection and privacy law, current market issues and proposals to enact, amend, or change data privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity laws and regulations and the needs and priorities of law firm solicitors, in-house counsel, and other privacy compliance professionals.
Have experience in, and knowledge of, some, not necessarily all, of the following areas: compliance, data security, data sharing, direct marketing, employee data and monitoring, data breach, data retention, privacy, surveillance, cyber threats, cybersecurity and risk management and security of critical infrastructure.
Have a genuine and demonstrable interest in data protection, privacy and cybersecurity law, and in helping to re-invent the way legal know-how works, with the ability to understand and provide practical guidance on complex legal issues, including how different data protection laws apply in practice.
Have a demonstrable interest and ability in writing with excellent attention to detail.
Bonus points for having published articles in prior roles and having a keen interest in engaging with new methods of providing content e.g., podcasts, social media, video content etc.
Have the ability to work independently and communicate effectively with your manager and the rest of the Practical Law team.
Have a proactive, "get it done" mindset, always looking for solutions and not shy about pursuing them.
