About the RoleJoin our specialist Privacy & Data Legal team that is dedicated to supporting ANZ's privacy, data, cybersecurity and intellectual property strategies and objectives globally.
As a Senior Lawyer, Privacy & Data, you are to provide quality, commercially astute and timely legal advice to ANZ clients in an efficient and pro-active manner.
Your advice will relate to a full range of data, privacy, automation, and innovation matters including, for example: privacy compliance, legal data protection reviews, privacy by design, privacy policy and consent drafting and management, open banking, data breach management, and information security.
You will also have a role in supporting ANZ's incident response program.
Role Type: Permanent, Full Time Role Location: Melbourne or Sydney What will your day look like?You will experience a variety of challenging work, including innovative projects for financial services innovation and data-based collaboration and partnerships.
You will frequently partner with other enablement functions including other parts of the Legal Team, Privacy Risk and other risk colleagues, Procurement, Compliance, Finance, Technology and Tax to provide privacy-related legal advice and negotiate compliant agreements with ANZ's data and innovation partners.
The Privacy & Data Legal Team performs as a "centre of excellence" to support matters that have an ANZ-wide impact across multiple divisions.
While much of the work is Australia based, ANZ operates in multiple jurisdictions and has operating entities all around the world, and the team supports with matters globally.
Your work will reflect this.
The regulatory environment that ANZ operates in is increasingly complex and you will be involved in regulatory and legislative reform processes, including providing legal advice on Australian privacy law reforms and open banking.
You will be involved in supporting enablement functions leading implementation of compliant responses to such new and changing regulations.
You will also need to instruct and manage external law firms who provide additional assistance from time to time.
What will you bring?To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
Have more than 7 years Post Qualification Experience in privacy and data law.Be strong at relationship building and able to work autonomously and as part of a team.Be excellent at time management with a demonstrated track record of managing challenging workloads (so be comfortable prioritising your work with your manager's support!
).Strength as a trusted adviser, capable of initiating, building and maintaining effective relationships across a range of disciplines and situations.Be a practical, analytical person who can articulate legal risks clearly and concisely.Be comfortable with ambiguity in areas of developing law such as data and privacy.Some additional skills for this role which will be viewed favourably include:Have outstanding drafting and negotiation skills.Have a growth mindset and be outcomes focused.Be willing and able to delegate, supervise and grow more junior team members.Enjoy the challenges of working across multiple jurisdictions.Enjoy the benefits of working with diverse colleagues.You're not expected to have 100% of these skills.
