Senior Lawyer (International Sanctions Specialist) Ally group is seeking an experienced lawyer with a strong background in international sanctions law to join our high-profile client for an initial 6-month secondment opportunity with the possibility of further extensions and a view to permanency.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge and understanding of international sanctions regimes, exceptional analytical skills, and a proven track record of advising clients on international law.
Candidates must be based in Canberra and hold an NV2 clearance or above to be considered in this role.
Key Responsibilities: Provide expert legal advice on international sanctions, including financial, trade, and United Nations Security Council sanctions.
Develop and implement compliance programs to ensure adherence to relevant sanctions laws and regulations.
Prepare high-quality written analysis for agency, executive, and Ministerial audiences.
Advise clients in deliberations and proceedings related to sanctions enforcement.
Stay updated on changes in sanctions laws and provide timely updates to clients and internal teams.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address complex legal issues and develop strategic solutions.
Skills/Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in sanctions law, preferably in a top-tier law firm or government legal department.
Strong understanding of international sanctions regimes, including UN, EU, and US sanctions.
Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
