Generalists - In-house (Legal) Government - Local (Government & Defence) We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Lawyer to join our Governance team.  Our Senior Lawyer will work closely with the Manager Legal Services and Lawyer in the provision of legal advice to Council. The team support the entire organisation and oversee the external briefing of legal representatives engaged on behalf of council. Key responsibilities of the role will include providing legal advice in the areas of planning, enforcement, property and contract law and other general legal advice as council requires from time to time.  ABOUT YOU The successful candidate will have completed a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree with a minimum of five (5) years post admission experience in one or more relevant practice areas in private practice, as in-house counsel, as a government lawyer or in a similar role. The successful candidate will hold or be eligible to hold a Corporate Practicing Certificate in the State of Tasmania.  Possess extensive demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the legislative framework within which council operates.  Have a proven ability to interpret complex legislation, By-Laws and court decisions and undertake complex legal research in relation to council matters. Possess an ability to work effectively to contribute towards team and corporate outcomes and build collaborative relationships. WHAT WE OFFER YOU The role is ongoing and full-time. A base salary between $116,378.92 and $127,608.44 will be negotiated with the preferred candidate + 12.5% superannuation and a 19-day month. A guaranteed 2.5% salary increase applies to this salary (or CPI) in July 2024.
