Our Team The Markets Group manages the end-to-end process for regulating markets including supervision, triage, investigation and enforcement.
Markets Enforcement is part of the Markets Group and is responsible for taking enforcement action (including disruptive action) on matters such as continuous disclosure, insider trading, market manipulation, licensing obligations and misconduct by retail OTC issuers.
Markets Enforcement investigates suspected market misconduct and takes formal enforcement action in response to suspected breaches of the Corporations Act and Market Integrity Rules. This includes commencing civil proceedings, working with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) to secure criminal convictions and taking administrative action through the Market Disciplinary Panel.
The Role As a Senior Lawyer, you will make an important contribution to Markets Enforcement and manage complex cases from investigation through to enforcement, including the preparation of legal briefs, providing legal advice and working with external counsel. You will also take a leading role in conducting examinations, interviewing witnesses, participating in search warrants, contributing to building case theory and strategic direction, as well as presenting to executives and the Commission. As a senior member of the team, you will also help to build legal capacity within ASIC.
About You To succeed in this role, you will possess a law degree and admission to practice in Australia, combined with extensive post-qualification experience in financial services, a regulatory environment, law enforcement, criminal or corporate and commercial law. You will have a proven track record in managing high-impact legal cases and a passion for using your legal expertise to make a positive difference for investors and consumers in Australia's financial system. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving capabilities, and exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills are essential.
