Senior Investigator - Consumer Protections

Grade: Clerk Grade 7/8 ($110,266- $122,058+ Super and Leave Loading + Accrued flex time)
Duration: Ongoing/Permanent
Location: Parramatta (will generally be expected to come into the office 2-3 times per week as a minimum, with Parramatta mandatory for 1 day per week.
This arrangement is subject to change based on team needs or broader divisional and Departmental flexible work policies)

About the roleNSW Fair Trading is the regulator for housing, property, trades, businesses, products, and services in New South Wales.
About the teamReporting to a Principal Investigator, the work of the team is varied but predominantly involves investigating offences under the Australian Consumer Law and Motor Dealers and Repairers Act 2013.
You will have carriage of your own investigations and work closely with your team on evidence gathering, conducting inspections, and other aspects of investigative work.
Key responsibilities

Plan and undertake investigations including all aspects of evidence gathering, including taking statements, issuing coercive notices, investigative interviewing, and brief preparation.
Analyse evidence, draft reports, make recommendations, and participate in court proceedings, including giving evidence.
Provide specialist advice to internal and external customers and stakeholders to maximise regulatory outcomes and reduce negative impact on customers, including providing insights and advice for projects and policy.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, policy, and procedure.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the team's approach to investigation and understanding, including presenting case studies, collaboration with the team, and creating or reviewing policies and procedures or templates.
Key challenges

Identifying risks and reacting quickly to changing situations when engaging with customers and stakeholders.
Conducting quality and timely investigations consistent with legislation, policy, and procedures.
Learning and understanding a variety of legislation, rules of evidence, and appropriate record keeping.

Have you got previous experience in investigation?
Do you have excellent judgement?
Will you be able to take initiative and think on your feet?
Can you handle multiple and competing priorities?
Essential requirements:

Demonstrated experience in the conduct of formal investigations or similar field.
Certificate IV (Government) Investigations or similar qualification or the preparedness to undertake an employee-sponsored program.
Regular travel throughout NSW.
Employees are expected to hold a valid driver's license throughout employment.
