Primary Objective: The Senior Investigation Officer (SIO) is responsible for investigating and resolving serious and/or complex complaints regarding NT Government agencies, local government, and police conduct, preparing reports and recommendations to improve public administration in the Northern Territory.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Resolve/Investigate serious and/or complex complaints about government agencies, local government, and police conduct under the Ombudsman Act 2009.Conduct assessments and research, and prepare quality reports and correspondence with recommendations.Liaise effectively with complainants and respondent organisations, maintaining productive relationships with key stakeholders.Provide leadership, supervision, training, and case management for Investigation and Resolution Officers.Participate in public education, stakeholder engagement, training, and quality improvement initiatives of the Office.Selection Criteria: Essential: High level skills, knowledge, and experience in investigations, inquiries, and research.Ability to interpret legislative provisions and operate within a legislative framework.Experience in interpreting complex information and proposing practical recommendations.Highly developed oral and written communication skills.Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate tactfully with diverse individuals.Effective time management skills and ability to work under pressure.Commitment to working in the public interest, embodying fairness, integrity, respect, professionalism, and accountability.Desirable: Formal qualifications in Law, Investigations, Public Administration, or a related discipline.Knowledge of public sector operations.Further Information: Appointment is dependent on not having a serious relevant criminal conviction.
