Primary Objective: As Senior Industries Officer, assist in maintaining community service work programs and managing an operational workplace environment for prisoners conducting Community Service Work.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Assist the Chief Correctional Officer in maintaining work programs and managing operations for prisoners conducting reparation work.
Be a positive role model for prisoners working within a community setting.
Encourage and assist prisoners in developing employable skills by delivering training and assessment of on-the-job activities and, where practicable, vocational education whilst undertaking Community Projects.
Maintain prison records, tool audits, and ledgers.
Consult with and provide the Chief Correctional Officer with regular reports.
Selection Criteria: Essential: Certificate III in a relevant trade qualification in land management, construction, automotive, or metal-based trades.
Certificate III in Correctional Practice and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or the ability to successfully complete within 12 months (if not in possession, this will be offered as a fixed-term appointment).
Good interpersonal skills and well-developed leadership skills with the ability to interact positively and effectively with people of diverse cultures.
Demonstrated experience of the health and safety standards that apply to the facilities services activities.
Ability to perform all custodial functions as directed.
Demonstrated achievements in meeting immediate and long-term priorities.
Demonstrated experience in managing crisis situations and resolving conflict.
Ability to maintain records and good report writing skills.
A current light rigid driver's licence and White Card or the ability to obtain.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with the special needs of Aboriginal prisoners.
Desirable: Comprehensive knowledge of legislation relevant to Correctional Services.
Experience working in rural, construction, automotive, or metal-based trades in a service industry.
