Who we are 
The People and Policy Branch are the front line of human resources (HR) for the department. We deliver timely and accurate responses to various client groups and support our people across the country with a strong focus on customer service and building trusting relationships with employees and business areas. We offer general and specialist HR advice and case management services for issues related to workplace relations, performance, probation, attendance, behaviour and workplace rehabilitation. The branch also includes a dedicated team that support our SES cohort and overseas deployments.

The Workplace Relations Section provides advice on the application of the department's enterprise agreement and suite of HR policies that supports the employment framework. The team are the escalation point for complex matters relating to these instruments. The team are also the key liaison point between business areas and unions that represent departmental employees. Business as usual activities also include managing the Individual Flexibility Arrangement and Voluntary Redundancy processes for the delegate, who sits within People and Policy branch.

The Job
With a breadth of HR generalist experience, and a developing knowledge of workplace/industrial relations in Australia, you will be responsible for: 

• supporting the development of, and implementation processes and projects relating to, future workplace arrangements (such as Enterprise Agreements and Public Service Act determinations)
• contributing to the development of department-wide policies, processes and guidance material relating to the delivery of employment conditions and entitlements
• coordinating and providing expert advice and supporting Individual Flexibility Arrangements and redundancy processes, including developing correspondence and preparing briefings for delegates
• contributing to specific projects that support the administration of entitlements whilst working closely with key internal stakeholders
• providing timely, professional and robust advice and policy direction to the Executive, managers and staff on complex workplace relations matters, HR policies and strategies
• triaging and supporting the resolution of complex issues and providing supervisory and mentoring to junior team members.

Please note that this recruitment process will initially be used to fill one ongoing vacancy in the section and that the role may be performed from any of the locations listed above. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.

What we are looking for Knowledge and experience
To be successful in this role you will have: 

• experience in a government environment (or similar) with knowledge of government legislation, policies, procedures and systems, particularly related to human resources
• proven experience in providing HR advice and outstanding customer service across a diverse organisation
• demonstrated experience managing multiple priorities with quality and attention to detail.
