The Senior Health & Safety Officer plays an important role in supporting an organisational culture that values the health and safety of all its employees as well as serving as the designated child safe officer for the organisation.
The position supports the delivery and implementation of the health and safety component of the People & Culture Strategy, the Child Safe Standards Strategy and the Workplace Health & Safety Plan in line with current legislation and organisational objectives.
The role
We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety professional to lead our dedicated team in promoting a safe, supportive workplace for all.
You will be one of five team members reporting to the Team Leader Health & Safety.
Jointly the team is responsible for Occupational Health & Safety, Child Safety, Wellbeing and Injury Management (Return to Work).
In The Role You Will Implement, maintain and champion best-practice WHS strategies, policies and proceduresServe as the designated Child Safety Officer for the organisationConduct internal monitoring of Council's safety performance in the way of audits, inspections and assessments.Build effective relationships with operational teams to embed a proactive safety cultureRespond to safety incidents, hazards, near misses and child safety incidents including maintaining the safety incident database.Collate data and prepare reports on Council's safety performance including making presentations to OHS Committees, Senior Leadership and Executive Leadership TeamsThis is an outstanding opportunity to join a team dedicated to high performance with day-to-day activities whilst supporting a focus on continuous improvement.

About You
We are looking for someone with:
Experience in a similar Health & Safety role (2 plus years), ideally in local governmentComprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, codes of practice and guidelinesExcellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skillsThe ability to manage a diverse range of tasks, responsibilities and deadlines at one timeHigh level problem solving and self-management skillsTertiary qualifications in Work Health & Safety or related disciplineFirst Aid qualification and preferably Mental Health First Aid qualificationChild Safety knowledge or experience (not essential)You'll also demonstrate our values of making a difference, showing care and respect, taking pride in your work, and being better together.
