Positions are available at the EL1 level for placement and secondment opportunities. Lawyers with experience in discrimination law, constitutional law, and litigation will also be considered.As a successful candidate, you will join a federal government agency's Employment Advice Team, where you will play a crucial role in providing legal advice in the areas of administrative law and social security law, as well as engaging in statutory interpretation, legislation development, and advising on general governance. The department is looking for flexible and interested lawyers with high levels of motivation and capability.Candidates from Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart, Darwin, Perth, and Brisbane will be considered.Candidates must be an Australian citizen and be eligible to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.Candidates must have an Australian bachelor degree in law, or a comparable overseas qualification and be admitted as a legal practitioner of the High Court or Supreme Court of an Australian state or territory.Duties and responsibilities include:The provision of advice in relation to Commonwealth legislation including the social security law as it relates to mutual obligations or in relation to potential amendments to the law, while taking account of policy and political matters;Helping to develop legislation to amend the social security law with accompanying explanatory material for introduction into Parliament and using your legal skills to support programs which help people find and keep paid work;Drafting briefs for our Minister or Secretary, or reviewing briefs developed by clients;Liaising with policy officers in our department and with lawyers in other agencies such as the Department of Social Services, Services Australia, the National Indigenous Australians Agency and the Australian Government Solicitor.Our ideal candidates will have:Highly developed written communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate technical legal arguments and draft sound legal advice;Sound judgment and ability to think creatively and analytically to deliver innovative client-focused solutions;The ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and clients, including excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills;The ability to promote a safe working environment and to support and supervise lawyers;The ability to effectively manage competing priorities within short timeframes;A willingness to learn and develop expertise in the areas relevant to the role.In return, we offer:Impactful Work: Contribute to maintaining the highest standards of integrity.Professional Growth: Opportunities for continuous learning and career advancement.Supportive Environment: Work within a collaborative and supportive team.High Salary: Attractive remuneration package.Applying for this role:To submit your application, press 'Apply Now'.
