About the opportunity The underground Beta Hunt Mine, located 600 km from Perth in Kambalda, Western Australia, is a deposit with the very rare feature of hosting both gold and nickel resources in adjacent discrete mineralised zones.
The mining tenements on which the Beta Hunt Mine is located are held by Gold Fields Limited. Westgold operates the Beta Hunt Mine by virtue of a sub-lease agreement with Gold Fields Limited.
Reporting into the Geotechnical Superintendent, the Senior Geotechnical Engineer plays a pivotal role ensuring the compliance of geotechnical considerations as per Mine Safety and Regulations.
The role includes: Maintain and update the ground control management plan (GCMP). Provide geotechnical advice to mining operations and technical services, to ensure geotechnical risks are effectively communicated, managed and controlled. Provide geotechnical input to the mining sequence, scheduling process and mine design. Actively review ground control performance with regard to mining design and operational practice. Management and monitoring of all geotechnical hazards for the UG operations and inactive open pit. Develop an understanding of mining design, planning, geological and operational issues to identify and communicate potential opportunities and concerns. Daily production tasks relating to geotechnical engineering, including development plans, inspections and data collection, geotechnical monitoring analysis and QAQC. Conduct geotechnical numerical modelling as required. Ensure QAQC regime for ground support elements is implemented effectively. Actively identify and manage Geotechnical risks. Assist with the training and mentoring of junior geotechnical engineers. Deliver ground awareness to mine site personnel. Reporting the rock fall, rock mass deformation and updating database where applicable. What do I need? A degree in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Civil or equivalent. Commitment to safety, work well in a team and having good communication skills. Proficient at using stress modelling software such as Map3D and RS3D. Proficient at using RocScience software i.e. Unwedge, Dips. Valid driver's license. The Westgold Offer: A permanent full-time position at a successful gold producer. Performance based bonus.
