Primary Objective: Provide advice and apply expert knowledge and skills to develop, integrate and support geoscientific business systems to ensure effective data management and timely delivery of high-quality data. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Provide technical leadership, support and manage GIS and geoscientific database operations, online data delivery and spatial web services. Provide expert advice on, and proactively promote effective data management to internal stakeholders. Prepare project proposals and other deliverables as required for the development and maintenance of databases and systems. Ensure data integrity through the development, documentation and management of standard vocabularies, data dictionaries, schema, metadata and procedures. Undertake research, critical analysis, and problem solving to recommend changes to improve system interaction, integration and service delivery. Current awareness of trends and practices in data management and delivery, data warehouses, and data analysis. Selection Criteria: Essential: Tertiary qualifications in Geosciences. Substantial experience in the development and management of databases and spatial data systems, including programming or scripting using SQL, Python, FME or similar. Good knowledge of geoscientific data management practices, and awareness of data analysis requirements. Demonstrated experience with data modelling, database design and administration. Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with ability to effectively listen, liaise, collaborate and negotiate to understand and meet client needs. Demonstrated ability to plan effectively, think laterally and anticipate problems while focusing on maintaining and developing information systems requiring a high level of detail and administration. Demonstrated aptitude to actively promote and champion best practice data management. Experience in project management and documentation including preparation of plans, business cases and reports. Desirable: Postgraduate qualifications in information systems, GIS or data management.
