Globe 24-7, in partnership with our client – a leading Global Tier 1 mining company – has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Underground Geologist to join a mining operation based in PNG on a FIFO roster.
The Role
Coordinate all aspects of the Underground Geological Activities, including training and development of personnel, grade control diamond drilling, mapping, reconciliation, and grade control modeling, in accordance with the company's Geological Process standards. Ensure timely and accurate contributions to mining, mine design, and production planning
Coordinate geological grade control and production activities.
Responsible for mine-to-mill and Resource reconciliations and reporting.
Manage drilling programs, including target generation, drill program design, implementation, and data management, in a timely manner.
Develop 3D geological models and resource estimations to improve the geological understanding of the deposit and ensure accurate grade control definition before mining.
Drive and maintain high-quality standards, systems, and procedures in all geological functions.
Maintain a high level of health, safety, and environmental awareness, and comply with the Health, Safety & Environment Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures.
Provide routine production core logging, including downhole survey checks and significant intersection calculations, addressing inconsistencies with those involved.
Conduct underground geological mapping, sampling, quality control, reporting, and data management activities.
Perform stope definition targeting, drillhole design, geological interpretation, and modeling.
Carry out underground geological modeling and resource estimates in consultation with the Resource Geologist.
Prepare underground resource estimates and reserve depletions in consultation with the Underground Engineer.
Monitor underground geology systems and business processes, identify and prioritize improvement opportunities, and develop alternatives and improvements to systems and methods.
Assist the Geology Manager with implementing change management initiatives and other business improvement projects.
The Requirements
Tertiary qualifications in Geology, or a related field
Membership in AusIMM, AIG, or equivalent
Geological mapping and logging, and interpretation skills
Knowledge of geostatistics and ore reserve estimation
Sound knowledge of sampling practices and theory
Understanding of grade control practices and their implementation in underground mining
Management of all technical aspects of drilling programs
Basic understanding of geotechnical and metallurgical processes
Stope-scale interpretive skills
Demonstrated success as an effective leader
Demonstrated ability to lead a team safely and improve team safety awareness
High-level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of personnel in the mining industry in PNG
Experience in managing costs and budgeting
Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas
Ability to develop 3D geological interpretations/models using Datamine
Intermediate/advanced 3D Datamine/Minesight skills for evaluating underground targets with digital data
