About the Role
Reporting to the Principal Geoscientist, the Senior Geologist is responsible for supporting and accelerating the discovery of economic deposits in the provinces selected for their superior exploration potential, specifically within the Kalahari Copperbelt (KCB) in Botswana. Interacting with various stakeholders, this position is responsible for generating exploration targets and improving the geological understanding of exploration and development projects. The position will also aid the Principal Geoscientist in technical relationships with external consultants and research organisations. While the position will be based at the company's head office in Perth, regular trips to Botswana and the exploration sites will be undertaken.
Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):
Discover economic ore bodies in line with the Sandfire exploration strategy
Generate and manage exploration targets ranging from regional/basin scale areas of interest to drill targets
Develop and maintain accurate 3D geological models from regional/basin scale to prospect/deposits scale, fit-for-purpose and constrained by sound geological and structural interpretations, geophysics, stratigraphy and drill holes
Provide expert technical and geological support and advice for the exploration team in Botswana
Analyse and interpret geological data, write high-level reports, and make presentations to management and stakeholders
Assist in managing the technical aspects of geoscientific data acquisition by staff and contractors at all of Sandfire's Projects
Foster best practices in exploration, data management and promote innovation and continuous improvement in all facets of geoscience and exploration
Develop our capabilities in exploration methods and approaches, including mineral systems thinking
Mentor and develop junior members of the exploration teams in both Botswana and Perth, fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement
About You
10+ years' experience in base metal exploration
Proven track record of target generation in sediment-hosted systems
Demonstrated experience in independently leading and driving exploration projects from mineral system concepts through to target generation
Proficient in integrating structural, stratigraphic, geophysical and geochemical datasets with drill hole logging and surface mapping to create robust 2D and 3D geological models
Strong interpretation skills in geophysics and basin analysis
Capable of making critical decisions, both independently and in a team environment, managing resources effectively
Proficient in geology software, with a preference for Leapfrog Geo, ArcGIS and ioGAS
