Mining - Exploration & Geoscience (Mining, Resources & Energy) This is an exciting technical role that is responsible for the evaluation and interpretation of subsurface geological data to inform decisions on Tri-Star's Australian projects.
Responsible for planning and completing geological activities on Tri-Star's projects, this role will work with other Tri-Star functions (e.g. land & tenures, commercial etc) to integrate subsurface assessments with economic evaluations and make recommendations to the General Manager - Petroleum and Coal that align with Tri-Star's strategy objectives.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities Subsurface EvaluationCollect, interpret and integrate geological data from various sources such as well logs, core tests, seismic surveys, and field observations.Develop and maintain technical databases that include key geological information to inform project evaluation.Complete well log interpretation and correlations using basic logs.Analyse geological and geophysical data to create maps on a regional and local scale that identify potential oil or gas deposits.Assess the geological chance of success of an exploration target and calculate volumetrics. Use geological data and maps to justify assessment.Identify knowledge gaps and develop scope of works for technical professionals to support workflows where required.Manage consultants and project budgets to deliver geological aspects of technical workflows that are outside of Tri-Star's internal skill set.Develop technical proposal for planned exploration activities and justify recommendation using geological information. Clearly articulate geological hazards associated with the recommended program.Work closely with the Engineering Team and other professionals to develop drilling plans and evaluation strategies to mitigate risks to ensure the success of exploration efforts.Support the operations team during project execution ensuring all technical objectives are met.Represent Tri-Star on technical committees or in Joint Venture Meetings.Work autonomously as required and with a focus on achieving results. Highly organised, excellent communication skills and attention to detail.Apply Petroleum and Coal experience to assess new opportunities consistent with the approved division strategies.What you bring to the role Tertiary qualifications in Geology.At least 10 years' experience in technical and/or government statutory and compliance reporting.Good communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.Manage the delivery of all work allocated in a timely, cost effective and efficient manner.Maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity and accountability.Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.Strong understanding of geological software (Petrel or equivalent) and data analysis tools.A key feature of the role is to have experience across multiple play types and commodities including conventional oil and gas plays, unconventional oil and gas plays and coal mining opportunities.This is an exciting opportunity to join a progressive and respected industry leader with a track record of discovery and commercialisation looking to diversify into the minerals sector across a broad suite of commodities and jurisdictions.
