The role
As the Senior Geodata Scientist you will work in a diverse team of geoscientists and data scientists, to design and build new and novel data layers and datasets that will help understand the mineral and energy potential of the State. You'll develop methods and algorithms for integrating various geoscience datasets, and these outcomes will go on to inform land use planning issues.
This position works with technical experts across the geoscience and Machine Learning domains. The role will manage the development of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques tailored to these domains and implements systems to solve geoscientific problems. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing methods that integrate a diverse set of modalities of geoscience data and ensuring the health of code products with a fundamental understanding of version of control and developer practices.
Your expertise in preparing reports and presentations, coupled with your experience in communicating geoscientific results, liaising with industry and related organizations, and providing advice to both the department and the public, will be crucial to your success in this role.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.
To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments) at the time of application.
A detailed resume outlining your key achievements, work history, education and professional development and covering letter of no more than two (2) pages, addressing the following points:
Bachelor of Science (Geoscience) or an approved equivalent Scientific Degree.
A postgraduate qualification in Geoscience or Data Science would be an advantage.
Substantial experience in geoscience data modelling, integration, analysis, and design, using data science scripting languages such as Python, R, and Matlab, and reporting through data visualization tools including GIS.
