About the Role:Join our Knowledge, Assurance and Executive Services Division as a Senior Freedom of Information (FOI) Officer.
This pivotal role involves managing complex FOI requests under the Freedom of Information Act 1982.
You will provide expert advice and leadership within the FOI Unit, supporting departmental executives and ministers while ensuring compliance with all legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the FOI Unit in managing and processing complex FOI requests.
Prepare expert advice for senior departmental officers regarding FOI matters.
Negotiate with stakeholders, peers, and other government agencies to ensure cooperation and timely delivery of services.
Develop technical reports at an advanced professional level.
Provide high-level expertise in specialized corporate support functions.
Challenge existing policies and contribute to the development of new ones based on specialist knowledge.
Role Requirements:
Ability to make informed decisions in situations with limited precedent, applying organizational frameworks effectively.
Strong negotiation skills to influence stakeholders and prepare comprehensive technical reports.
Expertise in handling complex issues within a specialized corporate support context.
Specialist knowledge in FOI theory and practice, with the ability to apply complex concepts to policy development.
Qualifications and Experience:
Demonstrated knowledge of Freedom of Information theory and practice.
Experience working within a government department or agency, with practical knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act 1982.
A tertiary qualification in Legal or a related discipline is highly regarded.
