Senior Financial Accountant

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join our Finance team in Melbourne.
This newly created role will play a crucial role in supporting the financial operations of the firm.
This position requires a detail-oriented and strategic professional who can oversee the accounting functions, ensure compliance with financial standard requirements, and provide insightful financial analysis to support the firm's decision-making processes.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities Complete monthly reconciliations of all Balance Sheet items in a timely and accurate manner.
Prepare monthly Financial Reports.
Process month/year end system closure.
Maintain WIP & Debt provision.
Prepare journals for payroll, payroll tax, etc.
Complete monthly salaries vs budget comparison.
Prepare half yearly bank covenant.
Complete yearly Workcover renewal.
Review allocation of expenses and make reallocations where necessary.
Monitor and manage daily cashflow reporting.
Review daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
Statutory Reporting: Ensure that accounting treatments are in accordance with accounting standard requirements.
Manage and prepare the annual financial accounts in conjunction with the external accountants.
Timely completion of financial statements and tax returns as set by Director of Finance and external accountants.
Coordinate the timely completion of all statutory and compliance related returns (eg, GST, FBT, PAYG, Payroll Tax, Workcover).
Prepare Principal's payments.
Reconcile and maintain current accounts.
Reconcile Principal's leave entitlements.
Acts as a mentor and positive role model to accounts team.
Handles complex finance related queries from internal staff if necessary.
Processes and Controls Assist in the development and establishment of processes and controls, to ensure accuracy of data collected.
Look to develop efficiencies in processes within the finance department and team members.
Other: Assist in the monthly management reports as required.
Assists with Finance related projects.
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and monthly forecasts.
Other reasonable duties as directed by the Director of Finance or Finance Manager.
Maintains cyber security at all times.
Cultivate an awareness of security risks, stay informed of latest cyber threats, instil best cybersecurity practices and take practical steps to protect the firm and client from cyberattacks.
Skills/Knowledge CA or CPA qualified.
Tertiary studies in accounting.
Preparation of statutory accounts.
Account reconciliations experience and strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Tax compliance exposure and up to date knowledge of accounting practices and procedures.
Strong computer literacy skills, advanced excel spreadsheet knowledge.
Comprehensive understanding of trust requirements, payroll tax, superannuation and other business tax requirements.
Management and supervisory skills (preferred).
