The role is responsible for various aspects of financial management, including bookkeeping, tax compliance, internal auditing, payroll, HR administration, administration of the scholarship fund and regulatory reporting and filing compliance.A key priority of this role is maintaining financial accuracy, integrity and efficiency of the financial reporting system, to enable informed decision-making and provide reliable financial information to key stakeholders, including management of the external auditors and various regulatory authorities while contributing to College's long-term sustainability.Some of the key responsibilities of this role include:Financial Transactions and Record KeepingManaging and maintaining the general ledger and Chart of Accounts.Performing balance sheet items and bank reconciliations.Maintaining the fixed assets register.Producing monthly and year-end financial statements.Compliance and ReportingPreparing and filing returns for WorkSafe certification, ATO, Consumer Affair Victoria and the Australian Charities and Not for Profits Commission.Internal Auditing and ComplianceConducting internal audits for legal, policies and procedures compliance.Payroll Management & HR AdministrationProcessing fortnightly payroll, ATO single Touch Payroll (STP) and year-end payroll process.Organising onboarding documents and forms for new employees.Reconciling payroll and superannuation.Management of the Newman College's Associated Entities DatabasesManaging all aspects of accounts payable and receivable, general ledger and chart of accounts.Receipting donations and issuing receipts to donors.Maintaining the currency of the investment portfolio reports.Use of Technology and Accounting SoftwareUtilising the Synergetic finance system to streamline processes, automate tasks, and maintain financial data security and confidentiality.Key success factors for the role include:A degree in accounting or related field. Professional certifications, CPA is desirable.Proven practical experience in accounting, bookkeeping and financial administration roles, preparing financial reports, reviewing financial performance and reconciling financial accounts.Proficiency in financial regulatory compliance, processing payroll, and experience and understanding of accounts receivable and payable processes and procedures.Knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management.High level of accuracy in financial data entry and reporting.Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with internal teams, external auditors, and stakeholders.Strong organisational skills to manage financial records, reporting schedules, and compliance requirements.High ethical standards, ensuring transparency and honesty in all financial dealings.Why work for Newman CollegeWorking for Newman is not a job, it's an experience.
