Given the broad span of this position, the successful candidate should have solid experience leading protective security programs and/or nuclear stewardship and regulation functions. Candidates with experience working across Government, industry, and international partners is also highly desirable.
Your Role The Head Stewardship and Security is responsible for delivery to the Agency and to the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Program the necessary protective security, nuclear stewardship, and regulatory coordination to ensure a safe and uncompromised nuclear-powered submarine capability for Australia.
The role oversees a security span from determining threats and requirements with the National Intelligence Community; understanding vulnerabilities and risks to the Program with AUKUS partners and defence industry; and delivering and assuring security outcomes across physical, personnel, information, and industry security domains. The role is as the Chief Security Officer for the ASA, and is a supported entity by Defence. In nuclear regulatory compliance, the role needs a strong understanding of Australia's regulatory environment with ARPANSA, ASNO, and environmental regulators to support the achievement of licensing for the Program. For nuclear stewardship, the role oversees the delivery of programs for Emergency Preparedness and Response, radiological controls, nuclear mindset and culture, and environmental protection. The role works closely with the Royal Australian Navy, Defence, and State and Federal government agencies, as well as AUKUS partners, and requires integration with Australian defence industry. This is a key role where you will lead and build a team of qualified and experienced people including public service officers, ADF members, and contractors to manage and advise on delivering an uncompromised Nuclear-Powered Submarine Program.
The successful candidate requires extensive and demonstrated experience in leading enabling functions that support a broader Program. A strong track record in developing high-performance teams, with a commitment to building productive strategic relationships with Defence and core stakeholders will be key to this role. Knowledge of Defence processes is highly desirable but not essential.
