THE ROLE The role will support work associated with the development of a comprehensive system and strategy that ensures Aboriginal people have shared access to, and the capability to use, locally relevant data and information to set and monitor the implementation efforts to Close the Gap, their priorities and to drive their own development.
The role works collaboratively with DFFH executives, managers and program areas across the state to ensure Aboriginal designed and delivered research, data and evaluation principles are embedded in Aboriginal program and service delivery. The role is also tasked with ensuring that policies and programs developed provide strong client-led outcomes and that there is an Aboriginal voice in decision-making processes.
The role will contribute to the coordination of the department's annual report on the Victorian Aboriginal Affairs Framework (VAAF), Closing the Gap National Agreement, and Self-Determination Framework, as well as reporting on the department's Korin Korin Balit-Djak strategy for department forums including the Aboriginal Strategic Governance Forum.
The position will require a strong knowledge of Aboriginal culture and principles of self-determination, as well as proven highly developed leadership, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. It will also require a strong understanding of evidence, reporting, research, and evaluation.

The department strongly recommends (but does not mandate) that employees maintain their COVID-19 vaccination status in accordance with current ATAGI (Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation) advice, given their individual circumstances. As of June 2023, DFFH does not require evidence of COVID-19 vaccination status.
