We now have an opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced person to join our team as a Senior Environmental Planning Officer.

We are looking for someone who understands the natural heritage values within Hume City Council and can identify indigenous vegetation communities, flora species and fauna habitat.
We want someone who can assist with building the capacity of the development industry and planning sector to achieve integrated environmental outcomes.

What you'll be doing: Provide specialist advice to internal and external stakeholders in relation to Victoria's planning framework as it relates to environmental management, vegetation, and biodiversity.
Monitor new and existing developments to ensure compliance with the Hume Planning Scheme and Planning Permits related to Environmental Planning.
In instances where planning controls are absent, liaise with property owners and developers to achieve an improvement to the environmental management of land for the benefit of the community.
Communicate the outcome of investigations with Council, the community (where appropriate), Government Departments and other Council Departments.
Represent Council at Enforcement or Planning Appeal Hearings.
Ensure that an efficient internal records system, relating to enforcement matters, is maintained.
Provide support and technical advice to internal and external stakeholders, including government departments and agencies, major land developers, Council departments and the community in relation to native vegetation offset management.
Assist with the review and preparation of planning scheme amendments.
Perform duties of an Authorised Officer under the Planning and Environment Act 1987.
Key skills and experience you'll bring to the role: Local Government Knowledge: A deep understanding of Local Government operations and awareness of issues at both the Local and State levels will be highly beneficial in navigating the complexities of the role.
Understanding of Victoria's planning framework as it relates to environmental planning / management.
Understanding of Water Sensitive Urban Design and Industrial Stormwater Management for environmental planning.
Understanding of the statutory procedures in relation to compliance and enforcement of environmental issues.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Bachelor's or master's degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, or a related field and experience.
Proven experience in environmental planning, impact assessments, and regulatory compliance.
Strong knowledge of the Planning and Environment Act 1987, Planning Scheme, laws and regulations and familiar with other statutory authorities.
Well-developed understanding of Hume's natural heritage values.
As a successful candidate, you will have substantial experience in Environmental Planning and Enforcement.
Your ability to build strong collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders will be essential in this position, as you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of successful outcomes for our environment and community.
