Suburban Connect is a consortium of global leaders in tunnelling including CPB Contractors, Ghella, and Acciona Construction delivering the Tunnels South package on Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East, on behalf of Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA). We have a broad range of roles available to build our diverse and inclusive workforce, including construction and engineering, planning and environmental management, corporate support, administration, communications, and many others. SRL East from Cheltenham to Box Hill is now under construction, with tunnelling to start in 2026 and trains to be running by 2035. Suburban Connect is constructing the 16kms of tunnels between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley using 4 tunnel boring machines and a range of excavation methods. The works also include 55 cross passages, 2 tunnel portal structures, 2 station box excavations, and associated supports. Primary purpose of the position

Lead a defined environmental delivery scope (75% field, 25% office) through the implementation and maintenance of an established project-wide environmental management system. Monitor and report on key environmental performance requirements, EPR's, approvals, objectives, and standards for managing project environmental risks. Develop and build capability of the Environment team through Environmental Field Leadership.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

Experience in working on major projects in environmental management or compliance with exposure to Environmental Performance Requirements. Lead environmental consultants and the collection of environmental field monitoring information. Develop, implement, and monitor the scope-specific environmental deliverables such as Workplace Environmental Management Plans. Liaise with government bodies, IEA, Client, and professional organisations on environmental matters and audits. Communicate environmental roles and responsibilities, review project team environmental competencies, and identify training/development needs. Support delivery teams with any environmental risks and opportunities that arise. Identify reward and recognition opportunities for environmental and non-environmental personnel in relation to environmental performance. Support and train project resources on putting environmental requirements into practice. Support the Project LPE Manager and Environmental Compliance and Approvals team on a consistent and industry-leading environmental delivery model. Actively pursue environment initiatives and innovations that deliver cost reduction and improved environmental outcomes. Ensure project Environmental Lead Indicators (ELI's) are delivered in accordance with contractual commitments for defined scope.

What we're looking for

Bachelor Degree in Environmental Engineering, Science, Sustainability, or other associated disciplines. Experience in working on major projects in environmental management or compliance with exposure to Environmental Performance Requirements. Postgraduate qualifications, e.g., graduate certificate or graduate diploma in Environmental Engineering, Risk, Sustainability, Project Management, or other associated disciplines. Current C Licence. Experience leading a defined environment scope and interfacing with delivery leaders. Effective time and people management skills including planning and sequencing of work, of own, others, and resource time management. Understanding of different leadership styles and demonstrated ability to build capability within Environment Advisors, Environment Coordinators & Graduate resources. Understanding of project cost & delivery implications. High level of skill in facilitating positive outcomes and preparedness to push boundaries and innovate. Reasonable character to see the bigger picture and manage competing priorities. Ability to manage competing priorities and drive environmental performance. Ability to delegate and resolve conflict within teams. Minimum 5 years experience in project system implementation, audit management, and environmental management. Desirable is prior experience on a Victorian Big Build job with EMF / EPR exposure.
