About the role on Snowy 2.0 Project
Snowy 2.0 Hydropower project - Design review and design support at construction design stage for underground excavation in TBM and D&B, leading constructability discussions and interfaces with FGJV, participation in safety-in-design workshops.
Meetings with Client and Owner, including daily geological monitoring meetings and Permit to Tunnel meetings.
Site support during construction phase in responding to FGJV requests for field (design) changes, requests for information, definition of non-conformity remedial measures, review of as-built documentation.
Coordination with other Lombardi company offices for design support to site requests.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The senior engineering Geologist will be part of the current DJV (Design Joint Venture) Cooma design team and also REDST (Resident Engineer Design Site Team) once the bulk of design is over and will be based full-time in the Snowy 2.0 project sites/Cooma office during the execution phase of the Snowy 2.0 hydro project (NSW, Australia) and will be involved in design and later day-to-day REDST team activities and tasks with regard to surface and sub-surface ground investigation, excavation and support of the D&B and TBM tunnels/adits, tunnel portals, shafts, caverns, intake portals and other project components.
Senior engineering geologist is expected to lead and mentor the Lombardi junior geologists.
REPORTS TO
Lombardi Engineering management or Lead Resident Design Engineer or any other as per company's policy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare or review geology reports, geological sections for design purposes.
Liaise with Lombardi design team.
Liaise with the client safety officers, tunnel inspectors, security guards, section engineers, and surveyors to ensure the safety of DJV staff/DJV geologists during geological field works.
Attend regular internal/external meetings as requested by Lombardi Engineering management or Lead Resident Design Engineer.
Attend regular technical meetings with the contractor/Employer as requested by the Lead Resident Design Engineer.
Oversee and conduct tunnels/shafts/cavern/access adits and portals geological mapping.
Assess ground conditions and behaviors in response to excavations in accordance with the relevant technical specifications and drawings.
Geology record-keeping for excavation and support works.
Review geological mapping, geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring documents, and other relevant documents as specified.
Advise on tunnel/cut slope excavation and support methods, rock/soil support, and geotechnical instrumentation.
Geological/geotechnical investigation and data interpretation in relation to excavations.
Review and approve as-built geological drawings for tunnels and access adits.
Review surface and sub-surface ground investigation results/works.
Provide responses for RFIs submitted by the Client and/or the Employer.
Prepare and review 2D/3D geological models using relevant software packages.
Liaise with the Lead DJV REDST and DJV/Lombardi geologists about project technical specifications.
Other tasks and responsibilities related to geology/geotechnics as assigned by the Lead Resident Engineer.
QUALIFICATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
At least 20 years of industry experience in ground investigation and tunnel excavation.
A degree in Engineering Geology or equivalent, preferably with professional registration status.
Familiarity with tunnelling observational methods and geological/geotechnical assessment.
Familiarity with advanced tunnel/underground geological software.
A valid driving license.
