The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is responsible for operating Australia's largest gas and electricity markets and power systems, including the National Electricity Market (NEM), the interconnected power system in Australia's eastern and south-eastern seaboard, and the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) and power system in Western Australia. As the national energy market operator and planner, AEMO's functions span multiple states, jurisdictions, and communities. The Systems Capability group, within AEMO's Operations division, is made up of two teams: Systems Performance and Commercial, and Operational Analysis and Engineering. The group is responsible for providing engineering analysis that allows for the operation of the NEM. Within the Systems Capability group, the Systems Performance and Commercial (SPC) team's primary responsibility is to apply power systems engineering to AEMO's commercial and regulatory roles.
About the role
The Security Enablement Specialists will fulfil specific roles within AEMO with responsibility for supporting the establishment and running of new regulatory functions for AEMO including the new security scheduling function, which is being introduced by the Improving Security Frameworks (ISF) NEM Reform Project.
What you will be doing Liaise with Real Time Operations and other Operations teams to maintain Power System security Work collaboratively with Operations teams to identify gaps and lead the rectification of problems related to essential system services, such as strength and inertia, in close to real time. Support a Security Services Enablement roster (24/7) as part of a wider roster team. Be responsible for monitoring and scheduling security services using AEMOs Security Scheduling Function tools. Provide advice and reporting on the new scheduling function. Raise scheduling function risks and issues as they occur in BAU and provide key SME input for their resolution. As this role includes supporting the establishment of the new security scheduling function, the role will initially work closely with the ISF project team, to review and update internal and public facing documents, including policies, guidelines, websites and training, related to the ISF scheduling function changes. What you will bring to the role Education/ Certificates An electrical engineering degree with power systems or other suitable technical focus Experience and Knowledge At least 5 years' experience working within the NEM, in a role with relevant experience. Detailed understanding of the various aspects of power system security Knowledge of the NEM regulatory environment with an understanding of the different roles of AEMO, AEMC, AER, and other relevant bodies Knowledge of power system security procurement arrangements and the ISF rule change (desirable). The ability to deal with people at all levels, establish and maintain strong relationships across a range of internal and external stakeholders, including NEM Participants and AEMO staff, as well as achieving the required results. The ability to identify and clearly articulate problems and recommend solutions. Proven analytical skills including business process improvement.
