As the Senior Engineer - Product Packaging, you will be responsible for the development of technical packaging specifications and leading/supporting best design packaging initiatives.
You will apply advanced knowledge of the packaging environment typically obtained through advanced education and work experience.
You will work closely with the Convatec Sourcing and Marketing teams, packaging suppliers, packaging test contractors, and third-party manufacturers to achieve overall project goals of: Designing and constructing new packaging or improvements to existing packaging; testing, analyzing, and selecting materials for packaging based on durability and cost-effectiveness.
Supporting and participating in the design, test, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototypes.
Supporting the development of manufacturing packaging processes ensuring that the Product Packaging complements the Packaging Production Equipment to obtain the target performance as specified by the project.
Designing quality assurance/control processes and procedures into packaging design which may include compliance with specific technical and regulatory standards related to product packaging.
Key Responsibilities: Packaging (re)design to meet international standards for environmental, quality, and cost improvements - covering all materials involved in the packaging process.
Working collaboratively with Packaging and Labelling Project Managers to deliver Packaging deliverables.
Managing packaging tasks/processes independently with limited supervision within wider business projects: Developing packaging design(s).
Presenting design(s) to stakeholder(s).
Developing Journey Hazard Test strategies, protocols, and reports.
CAPA and failure investigation through to resolution.
Communicating effectively with project stakeholders and other members of the team.
Clearly communicating project progress, challenges, and solutions that arise with projects and discussing accordingly with relevant team members and stakeholders.
Providing on-the-job training to new personnel through coaching and reviewing the work of lower-level professionals.
Skills & Experience: Knowledge of ESG Principles, Value Engineering, and Cost-Initiatives would be desirable.
Experience of Product & Process Validation activities.
Demonstrable experience of on-time delivery of complex technical projects and activities.
Building productive relationships with external parties (e.g.
design houses and contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMO's).
Applying a range of statistical techniques including Design of Experiments (DoE) to product/process development activities.
Highly structured, ability to progress tasks in parallel, and proven problem-solving skills.
The ability to communicate effectively in Technical English (verbal and written) is essential.
Understanding of basic graphic artwork development and printing techniques such as offset litho, digital, flexography, gravure, etc.
Highly computer literate i.e.
Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
Qualifications/Education: Bachelor's Degree in Science and/or Engineering (or equivalent).
Experience working within the Medical Devices or equivalent regulated industry.
A minimum of 5+ years in packaging development/engineering for a regulated industry.
Dimensions: Team: This position will not have direct reports or line management responsibilities.
Line management will be within the department reporting to the Manager - Product Packaging.
Project work will be undertaken in collaboration with the Packaging & Labelling or wider business Project Managers.
Principal Contacts & Purpose of Contact: The nature of this role will require the individual to deal with a wide range of contacts at different levels of seniority within the organization.
In addition, the individual will deal with contacts external to the organization where these may be external companies or government agencies.
Travel Requirements: Position may involve travel up to 25% of the time, mostly within Europe but overseas travel is expected.
Most trips will include overnight travel.
Languages: Speaking: Yes English* Writing/Reading: Yes English* *To a high technical standard, additional languages as required or nice to have.
Working Conditions: This position is based in Deeside working within an office and lab environment.
